What is the number one reason for a poorly functioning air conditioning unit?
The number one reason for a poorly functioning air conditioning unit is a lack of air return due to either leakage in the air conditioning duct system or a poorly executed air conditioning duct system.
There are things that you can do to maintain air return and air duct system to prolong the life of your air conditioner. Make sure that furniture is not interrupting the flow of air from room-to-room by being placed in front of transfer grills or registers. Check your attic and air conditioning duct system for proper insulation. You can improve the lifespan and efficency of your air conditioner unit just by having a properly planned and maintained air condtidioner duct system.

How often should I have my A/C system serviced?
Champion AC recommends annual tune-ups for their customer for several reasons. Maintaining your system will extend the life expectancy, ensure dependable operation, minimize electric consumption and shorten runtime. Champion AC offers maintenance agreements to remove the burden of remembering to schedule a tune up, also giving you a 15% discount on any other repair throughout the year. Please feel free to contact us with any needs or questions about your system.
Do I have to buy both indoor and outdoor units when I replace my heat pump?
Yes. Champion AC policy on this is we will not bid an installation without also bidding a matched indoor unit. Heat Pump systems are bought buy a seer, cooling rating and a H.S.P.F. (heating) rating. The only way to get the ratings that you paid for is with a matched indoor unit. Not changing the indoor unit can also cause problems with defrost cycles, reversing freon pressures, and void factory warranties with equipment manufacturers.
What should I look for when purchasing a system?
Make sure your contractor is licensed, been in business for at least 5 yrs because a lot of businesses fail in the first 5 years. Warranties should be given to you in writing, technicians need to be factory trained, company needs workers compensation insurance, to protect you from a lawsuit if someone was injured on your property. Company should be a member of the Better Business Bureau and have excellent reputation referrals from friends or co-workers that have used the company in the past.
Make sure your proposal is very detailed and easy to understand.
I have a 2-story house and upstairs is much hotter than the lower level. Will the new systems help the problem?
Yes, Champion AC can certainly help you. Often the problem is not enough return air or maybe no air is circulating in the upstairs area. When warm air rises, we need a way to capture the air and run it thru the system and release it again. This is usually costly to do after a house is built. It all depends on the floor plans and what the customer is willing to do. We have furnaces with blowers that run at a low speed, when not heating or cooling, and help to mix the air at both levels. This helps tremendously with temperature differences. These blowers do this with very low electrical usage.
