Installation Process for a New Air Conditioner System

Installation Process for a New Air Conditioner

You’ve decided to invest in a brand-new air conditioning system. Congratulations! A new AC unit will keep your family cool and newer air conditioning models are typically more energy efficient – saving you money on your monthly electric bill. Chances are, you don’t know what to anticipate during the AC installation process. Here’s what to expect:

1. Time frame and crew

We’ll provide you with a two-hour window of arrival on installation day. Depending on the size and details of your installation, the crew will consist of 2-3 of our professional installers. All crews are background checked and drug tested for your safety. A typical installation takes anywhere from 6-8 hours. You are not required to be home for the entire installation process, but you will need to be there to meet us and back at the end for a system walkthrough, thermostat walkthrough and final paperwork signing.

2. Protecting your home

Once we’ve arrived at your home, the first step is to protect your floors and carpets. We’ll wear shoe covers and lay down sheets in the most heavily trafficked areas. We often get questions about household pets during the installation process. We love our furry friends, but it’s usually best to keep your dogs and cats in a closed room or in their kennels while the crew is working.

3. Disconnect old units

After preparing your home, our team will disconnect your old unit and remove it from your home. They will take both the inside air handler/furnace and the outside condenser.

4. Begin installation from the outside

After all the old equipment is removed, our team will begin installing the outside condenser. We can set it on the old pad or a new one, if needed. We’ll then connect the copper line set and solder it. Next, we’ll connect the wires outside.

5. Finish installation on the inside

After the outdoor part of the installation process is complete, we will begin installing the new air handler or furnace from the inside of your home. This will either be placed in the attic or in a closet, depending on the layout of your home. We’ll connect the wires and reseal the plenum once everything is in place.

6. Installing the thermostat

Now that the main system is installed, we’ll begin work on the new thermostat. We’ll remove the old thermostat and install an energy-efficient, programmable thermostat for you. We’ll walk you through the programming process, so you can always program and reprogram your air conditioner in the future. Programmable thermostats are a great way to save money and energy.

7. Finishing touches

Once the thermostat is installed and programmed, we’ll perform a system check to make sure everything is running smoothly. Our team will show you how to change your air filter and will provide you with maintenance tips. We’ll handle the paperwork and clean up the job scene. From there, we’ll be on our way.

It’s important to keep in mind that it may take another 6-8 hours for your home to cool down once the new system is installed. If you have any more questions about the air conditioning installation process, you can call Champion AC at (210)-888-9506.
