Is My Thermostat Working?
Living in Texas, we know the importance of air conditioning – but we often overlook a key component of the air conditioning unit: the thermostat. As the summer months roll in, we need to ask ourselves two important questions: Does my thermostat display a different temperature than it is set to? And is my thermostat programmable? If you answered no to either of these questions, you may want to consider updating to a new thermostat to save you money and energy!
There are a variety of reasons why your thermostat could stop working. Those reasons include:
- a blown fuse
- loose wiring
- dirt buildup
- dead batteries
- or poor placement – direct sunlight or heat can have negative effects on the functionality of a thermostat.
Any of these problems can lead to your thermostat breaking down and ceasing to work properly, which can cost you comfort and money.
What are the signs I can look for to determine whether my thermostat is still working properly? Well, if your thermostat is working correctly, your home will be properly heated/cooled and you’ll have no problems. If your thermostat is in need of being replaced, you should notice a few symptoms. For example, the setting on the thermostat and the temperature of the room would never quite line up, or your unit could not turn off or not turn on at all.
If you are in the market for a new thermostat, you may want to consider having a smart thermostat or a programmable thermostat installed. Either device is may preferable to the old version that may be cooling and heating your home. A programmable thermostat allows you to preset temperatures to change throughout the day without you touching a thing. A smart thermostat is similar to the programmable thermostat in that you can preset temperatures, however it also allows the user to control the settings from their smart devices.
