This weekend is the annual NBA All-Star Weekend, and the Spurs will be well represented in Houston. Here’s the rundown.
Let’s start with the big game. Gregg Popovich will coach the West All Stars, with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker selected as reserves. Parker is enjoying perhaps his best year in the league, averaging 19.8 points, 7.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He’s considered a dark horse for the MVP race at the halfway point. As for Duncan, this is his 14th All Star selection. He’s averaging 17.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game on the year.
There will be plenty of silver and black on All-Star Friday and Saturday, as well. Kawhi Leonard is on Team Chuck in the Rising Stars Challenge. He’ll try to help Charles Barkley defeat Shaquille O’Neal’s team Friday at 8 p.m. The #LetBonnerShoot campaign resulted in Matt Bonner’s selection to Saturday’s Three-Point Contest. Parker will defend his Skills Competition title on Saturday, and Spurs’ legends Sean Elliott and Bruce Bowen are suiting up for the All-Star Celebrity game.
You can catch the All Star Game Sunday at 7 p.m. on TNT.
