Everyone wants to cut down on electricity use these days. Less electricity use obviously means lower utility bills. Now CPS Energy is rolling out a new program to help you do that in your home.
The program is called CPS Energy Savers, and the mission is to perform energy audits and retrofit 4,700 homes in San Antonio by 2013.
Our goal is to educate our customers with the knowledge they need in order to increase their home’s energy efficiency, as well as provide them with valuable rebates to help offset the cost of upgrades,†said Albert Cantu with CPS Energy.
Here’s how the program works. First, you’ll need one of three energy assessments performed at your home. There is a Do It Yourself option that features an online survey. You get a $5 credit on your CPS Energy bill if you fill it out. There is also a professional assessment option. A licensed professional will come to your house for $25 (a discounted price as part of the program) and perform a walk-through energy audit. The third type of energy assessment is the complete energy evaluation. It features the professional walk-through plus several additional tests, like a carbon dioxide detection test, a duct blaster test and thermal imaging. Through the program, this costs a discounted rate of $95.
From there, CPS Energy will help you find qualified contractors to perform those energy-efficient upgrades to your home. There are also some additional incentives for the first 300 customers who get the assessments and retrofits to their AC system, insulation and air ducts.
